In response to media reports that "a soldier in volunteer service lost contact, his mother was urgently looking for him on social media, and all of Penghu was mobilized looking for him", Penghu Defense Command stated today (25th) that when cadres of the tank battalion company under its command called personnel on vacation to check in with them the previous day (23rd), they could not get in touch with a soldier whose surname is Chang. As such, cadres of the battalion immediately inquired as to his whereabouts with his family and colleagues, organized personnel to search for him, and reported the case to the police yesterday (24th).
This morning, the team found serviceman Chang in Magong City. After being persuaded by unit cadres and the police, he was taken away safely and referred to hospital for treatment. The Ministry of National Defense (MND) appreciated the concern and assistance from the general public, and will continue to strengthen psychological and counseling training for officers and soldiers to prevent the recurrence of similar cases.
