The 8 th Field Army Command stated that a dump truck of the 54 th Engineering Corps
under its command had accidentally fallen sideways when turning when involved in
a dredging task at Tsengwen Reservoir this morning (22 nd ). After learning about the
accident, Command immediately sent the driver, who suffered a dislocated arm, and
the vehicle captain, who suffered contusions, to hospital. Their conditions are stable.
The Army Commander went to the hospital to wish the officers well, and ensure
they were receiving the best medical care.
The 8 th Field Army highlighted that the Armed Forces considers safety to be of
utmost importance when executing missions, and conducts pre-work education and
safety inspections before construction every day to ensure that missions can be
carried out in safely.
The 8 th Field Army also emphasized that the professional capabilities of engineering
troops have long been recognized by our nationals. On this occasion, the servicemen
were fully committed to the drought relief mission in the south, and all strongly feel
the importance of the mission to protect their homeland. A task force has been set up
to clarify the cause of the incident to avoid a similar situation in the future.
