In response to the media reports that "Juguang of Matsu had run out of food and had
to resort to military canned food", Matsu Defense Command today (6 th ) clarified as
follows:
1. Due to military-chartered civilian ships that could not transport provisions to the
Matsu area on a number of occasions due to poor weather conditions and essential
vessel repairs, meat was in short supply on the 4 th and 5 th of this month and canned
food from the military was provided instead as the supply of meat of local vendor is
not stable. All other produce was supplied as normal.
2. Lieutenant General Chan, Commander, and Major General Ma, Deputy
Commander, personally transported frozen meat for two days to the Juguang area up
until 7:00 a.m. today.
3. In addition, a C-130 transport aircraft transported 5.2 tons of various frozen meat
to the Matsu area, which is a sufficient supply for the entire defense area for 10
days.
4. Since military-chartered civilian ships are still under repair, Command will
continue to use C-130 transport aircraft in case of further delays so non-staple foods
are delivered by air in order to accommodate the needs of servicemen.
