Dongyin Area Command issues a press release about reports that "a soldier in the unit self-harmed, and Command is now fully cooperating with the prosecutor and police in the investigation"

Dongyin Area Command stated that a private first class whose surname is Wong
self-harmed at 7 am this morning (23 rd ) when on duty as a sentry guard. After the
incident, the unit immediately cordoned off the scene, and reported the incident to
Dongyin police. Army Command dispatched a task force to Dongyin to work with
the local Prosecutor’s Office of Lianjiang County in the investigation.
Dongyin Area Command expressed its sincerest regrets over the incident, and is
working with the prosecutor and police in the investigation to clarify the situation. It
has also assigned high-level cadres to the victim's family to further assist during this
difficult time. Command will also continue to strengthen the education of its officers
and provide psychological consultations and coaching to help servicemen handle the
challenges they may face and avoid the recurrence of such tragic events.
