In response to media reports that the "Armed Forces have resumed marching in
goose steps and the manner of parades is very similar to that of the People's
Liberation Army", the Ministry of National Defense (MND) has clarified today
(18th) as follows:

1. Marching in goose steps is a category of "Basic Drills of Armed Forces", and its
purpose is to train service personnel to be familiar with military actions, and
cultivate an army of strict military discipline, strong spirit, and firm will. Troops
marching in goose steps can enhance the honor and cohesion of officers and
soldiers, and cultivate their spirit of solidarity, cooperation, and unity, all of which
are the foundation of combat effectiveness.

2. As the Armed Forces work with the distribution of new equipment, such as T-91
rifles and combat suits, they are now focusing on military drills for actual combat,
hence have carried out revisions to relevant guidelines of how to hold weapons,
wear their uniforms, and procedures regarding the training for marching in goose
steps. This is not related to the People's Liberation Army.
