Marine Corps Command issues a press release in response to media reports stating that "someone trespassed and broke into the military compound at Zuoying" (November 15, 2021)
The media reported that "someone trespassed and broke into the military compound at Zuoying". Marine Corps Command stated today (15th) that a discharged serviceman named Chen from the Navy Education, Training, and Doctrine Development Command had a false ID and walked into the compound at 23:27 on the 12th of this month (11). He was seized by gate guards at 00:24 on the 13th, and the unit had already sent the relevant matter and evidence to the MP and police for investigation. Command will fully cooperate with the inquiry and find who is responsible.
Marine Corps Command further noted the office premises and units that Chen might have traveled through on foot were all locked after a preliminary and comprehensive investigation, and no damage to doors or windows was found. There are also no missing items discovered. Command will continue to fully cooperate with the prosecution and police authorities in subsequent investigations.
Marine Corps Command emphasized that Command has reviewed the punishment for negligent actions of servicemen, has comprehensively strengthened ID recognition as well as implemented double inspection mechanisms as part of guard-post training and case education. It has ordered all units to enhance access control action to prevent the recurrence of similar cases.
