With regard to media coverage by Hsiao, Chieh-Yun of Yi.Media who reported that “the President has secretly ordered an expansion of the Armed Forces, and the three armed services branches are scrambling to fill their quotas,” the Ministry of National Defense (MND) elaborates as follows:

  1. The content of the report is purely speculation by the media and is not factual. In fact, the MND has no such plans in place.
  2. The structural adjustment of the Armed Forces is done after taking into account factors such as enemy threats, overall resource allocation, and joint operation requirements. According to the principles of "flat command, technology over manpower, and firepower in place", the MND is tasked with coordination from its planned organization adjustment for weapons and equipment acquisitions. As such, the total number of military personnel remains the same at 215,000, and there will not be an expansion of military servicemen.
  3. The MND calls on the media to fulfill their social responsibility and avoid misreporting information that affects the general public's understanding of defense operations.
