The Navy Education, Training and Doctrine Development Command (“NETDDC”) issued a press release with regard to the media coverage titled “NETDDC major-instructor committed suicide in his dorm room” (July 5, 2020)
In response to the media coverage titled “NETDDC major-instructor committed suicide in his dorm room,” the Command said on July 5th that Commissioned Officer Yang was found by his colleagues to have attempted suicide this morning and was delivered to the General Hospital of Armed Forces in Zuoying, Kaohsiung. However, he was pronounced dead, unfortunately.
The Command further expressed that they feel truly sorry for the incident. Designated members have been delegated to assist with the funeral for the bereaved family. More intensive suicide prevention training will be offered.
The Command also commented that Yang was one of the training instructors participating in the joint landing combat drill. Based on preliminary investigation, Yang was not reprimanded by any superiors, nor was he asked to take any responsibilities. While investigation is underway, the military does not advise any speculation or unsubstantiated coverage by the media.
