Ⅱ. Media Reference Materials:

The “2019 Taipei Aerospace & Defense Technology Exhibition” will be held between 15th and 17th August 2019 at Hall 1 of the Taipei World Trade Center, and the organizer “Taiwan External Trade Development Council” has invited domestic and foreign aerospace and national defense industry manufacturers as well as the Ministry of National Defense to participate the exhibition.

To implement the government’s policy of “5+2 Industrial Transformation”, and manifest the promotional effectiveness of autonomous national defense, the Ministry of National Defense focuses on “Autonomous National Defense, Industry Upgrade” as the exhibition theme, and participates the exhibition with its National Defense Pavilion by integrating 7 units including Army Headquarters, Navy Command Headquarters, Air Force Command Headquarters, National Defense University, Manufacturing Center of Armaments Bureau, National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, and Northern Area Recruitment Center.

The National Defense Pavilion has planned 5 major exhibition areas of “IDF Time Tunnel, Joint Combat Equipment, Military and Civilian Technology, Simulated Interactive Experience, and National Defense Talent Recruitment”, and plans to display a total of 81 items of weapons, equipment, and R&D achievement (including recruitment activities). The pavilion hopes to enhance the understanding of attending civilians regarding the R&D achievement in national defense technology through methods (assisted with interpretation by specialists) including physical presentation, models, diagrams, and multimedia playback, as well as concretely display the implementation performance of Armed Forces’ military establishment and combat readiness, and reinforce the national defense awareness and the faith in autonomous national defense for the public through this opportunity. The relevant brief introduction of the content are as follows:

1. IDF Time Tunnel:

This exhibition area integrates interactive touch with multimedia technology by situational models, in order to render historical images and the models of the latest types of advanced trainer aircrafts including Pazmany PL-1 Laminar, AIDC T-CH-1 Chung Hsing, medium-sized military transport aircraft, AIDC AT-3 Tzu Chung, Northrop F-5, and IDF, and introduce the arduous development course from the “propeller propulsion phase” to the “jet propulsion phase” for Taiwan’s aviation technology, allowing the public to support IDF, which achieves the objectives of autonomous national defense and industry upgrade, where the “Introduction on the Latest Trainer Aircrafts” is the biggest highlight of this exhibition area.

2. Joint Combat Equipment:

This exhibition area utilizes the strategic conception of “Tenacious Defense, Multiple-layered Deterrence” to exhibit 42 items of weapon and equipment, including air control, sea control, and ground equipment as well as missile systems, where the highlights lie on 15 autonomous R&D achievement, including “Large UAV”, “30mm Cannon Armored Vehicle”, “Wan Chien Cruise Missile”, “Sky Bow III Missile and Launcher”, and “Hsiung Feng III Anti-Ship Supersonic Missile”, which fully display the R&D of national defense technology and the substantial autonomous national defense capability.

3. Military and Civilian Technology:

Military and civilian technology primarily utilizes the R&D energy of national defense technology as the foundation, and integrates the demand orientation of the industry to develop military and civilian technology, so as to create industrialized benefits for national defense technology. This exhibition area displays 24 exhibits, including the “Space Class Optic Fiber Gyroscope“, and the highlights lie on 9 R&D achievement, including “UAV Defensive System”, “Metal Additive Manufacturing Technology”, “Handheld Communication Device”, and “High Frequency Software Radio Communication Device”, which fully display the concrete achievement of transforming national defense technology into civilian application.

4. Simulated Interactive Experience Area:

This exhibition area displays a total of 6 training simulation systems, including the 360-degree virtual real image projection, portable light weapon training simulator, rotatable gun tower simulation system, E-MISSILE interactive platform, light weapon shooting training simulator, and flight simulation software, and 4 items including the “360-degree virtual real image projection” are being exhibited for the first time, in order to display the Armed Forces’ achievement in digitalized simulated training. The introduction on primary exhibits are as follows:

a. 360-degree virtual real image projection: interactive exhibition is implemented paired with digital multimedia, where citizens are able to select and browse on the 3D animation of missiles and the introduction on their segmented modules through contactless gestures from all four sides, and citizens are free to select the battle object/launch vehicle during the process to complete the battle mission.

b. Portable light weapon training simulator: this exhibit is easy to carry and requires only a small space, where its system provides the same mechanical zeroing and calibration method to real guns, and is equipped with environmental effect simulation including wind, rain, and visibility; system requirements are also customizable.

c. Rotatable gun tower simulation system: 3 axes with 360° of rotatable freedom each, and integrates the concept of shooting, VR, and circular rotatable gun tower, where users are able to operate machine guns to shoot the targets in the aerial combat storyline of World War II.

d. E-MISSILE interactive platform: utilizes large multimedia to render the decomposed structure for the latest weapons that are developed by the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science & Technology, including the Sky Bow III Air Defense Missile, Hsiung Feng III Anti-Ship Supersonic Missile, and Sky Sword Air-Launched Missile, to achieve the effect of national defense education.

5. National defense talent recruitment area:

The quality of national defense manpower is the critical factor to military establishment and combat readiness. In order to maintain the advantage of high quality Armed Forces personnel, and strive to recruit excellent young people for the country, when faced with the rapid changes of strategic environment as well as the increasingly refined technology and weapons, this exhibition area will establish a national defense elites and national defense technology talent recruitment center, which allows citizens to understand the mission overview from various units including Army, Navy, Air Force, Reserve, and Military Police, as well as the manpower requirements from the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science & Technology through vivid and interactive activities, then invites excellent talents to join the military career or the development lineup of national defense technology.
