Strong Typhoon Approaches; Armed Forces Completed Preparedness and Standby on Alert
Ministry of National Defense has stated today (8th) that in order to respond to the potential impact of “Typhoon Lekima” to Taiwan, the ministry worked with the Central Emergency Operation Center and simultaneously completed level 1 preparedness at 8:30 a.m. this morning, hoping to minimize damages and ensure the safety of the public and assets through the most comprehensive preparation.
Ministry of National Defense pointed out that the Armed Forces currently consist of more than 33,000 soldiers, and more than 4,200 units of various vehicles and machinery; in addition, Army Aviation and Special Forces Command as well as the Marine Corps have also completed the dispatch of preset special combat units. Furthermore, Xiahuxi Camp of Linkou and Zhongzheng Base of Su’ao have been respectively preset with 2 units of AAV7 Amphibious Assault Vehicles and 2 units of inflatable boats, and the 40 units of AAV7 Amphibious Assault Vehicles at the Zuoying Huoniu Camp of Navy have completed preparedness, which can be used for implementing disaster prevention and rescue missions immediately.
In addition, in response to the level 6 earthquake this morning, which may lead to loosen earth and rocks in mountain areas or potential disaster areas, and cause disaster incidents, the Armed Forces have reinforced contact with various county and city governments to take the initiative to understand if there are any requirements for dispatching disaster relief troops. Furthermore, following previous experience in disaster relief, the 3rd Combat Zone took the initiative to contact the village chief of Yingshi Village, Yilan County, and will provide relevant assistance in resident evacuation according to the needs of the village in order to maintain the safety of the people.
Ministry of National Defense emphasized that as “Typhoon Lekima” approaches Taiwan, the Armed Forces will continue to closely follow its route, and in the premise of ensuring the safety of fellow comrades, flexibly adjust usable troops, and fully assist local governments in implementing disaster prevention missions, ensuring the safety of citizens and assets.
