High Vigilance in Public Security from Fellow Comrades, Contractor Suspected of Disclosing Confidential Information Being Investigated

Regarding the media coverage of “Republic of China Armed Forces Contractor Disclosed Confidential Information to the People’s Republic of China, with 2 Suspects in Custody”, Ministry of National Defense has stated today (4^th) that this incident was reported by fellow comrades upon discovering abnormalities. Although the content for the Armed Forces engineering tender contracted to civilians did not involve confidential and sensitive items, the behaviors of the contractor were suspicious during the construction period, hence was reported to supervisors, and was co-investigated by public security departments and national security units. The case is being investigated by the judiciary as of now.

Ministry of National Defense emphasized that in order to respond to the People’s Republic of China resorting to every conceivable means to penetrate into Republic of China, the ministry has been reinforcing counterintelligence education in recent years; this incident was reported by the unit, indicating that the Armed Forces comrades have been equipped with public security vigilance, and the ability to instantly report and response, so that violations can be stopped in time.

Threats of national security have been on the rise, and the Armed Forces must not relax on counter-invasion at any time. Apart from continue to implement public security education, deepen safety vigilance for the Armed Forces, and closely monitor various safety control and management mechanisms, the ministry also upholds the mutual cooperation model between national security teams, as well as strengthen reporting of early information and communication warnings and integrate joint defense functions, in order to effectively implement counterintelligence works and ensure the purpose of national security.
