The Ministry of National Defense expressed today (29th) that, due to the effects of “Typhoon Megi”, the sea and air transport in Kinmen has been suspended for 2 days. The Ministry of National Defense indicated that, due to the unfavorable weather conditions at Kinmen which had affected the transportation capabilities of civil aircrafts, large numbers of passengers are left stranded at the Kinmen Airport and the civil aircrafts are unable to accommodate the demands of the public, so the Ministry of National Defense had accommodated to the requests of the Ministry of Transportation and Communication to deploy 4 C-130 transportation aircrafts to assist in the evacuation of passengers returning to Taiwan from Kinmen. The operation has enabled the evacuation of 275 members of the public and military personnel in total.
The Ministry of National Defense stressed that, the evacuation operation has helped to alleviate the inadequate capacities of civil aircraft and assisted the transportation of the public and military personnel in returning to their homes or workplace earlier.
