Ministry of National Defense Conducts Routine Press Conference for Release of “Hualien Air Base ‘National Defense Educational Tour –Military Base Tour’” Information (August 2nd 2016)

2. Highlights of Press Release
1) Ministry of National Defense spokesman Chen Chung-Ji expressed today (2nd) that, in order to demonstrate the successes of military building and combat readiness, improve interaction with public, enhance cohesion between the people and the military, and unite the national defense forces, the Ministry of National Defense will be hosting the “National Defense Educational Tour –Military Base Tour” campaign in the Hualien Air Base on August 13th (Saturday).
2) Ministry of National Defense spokesman Chen Chung-Ji indicated that the event will include aerial maneuvers by the Air Force Thunder Tigers, performance displays of mainstream fighters, Air Force Band performances, stationary display of equipment, and exhibition of historical materials during the resistance war, as well as tours around the military base. The public is welcome to participate in these events with their families to enjoy the rich and informative national defense tour.
3. Introduction to Hualien Air Base “2016 National Defense Educational Tour - Military Base Tour”
1) Aim:
Through the military base tour, the military can demonstrate their successes in military building and combat readiness, improve public relations, promote cohesion between the public and military, inspire national defense awareness, and unite national defense forces.
2) Planning:
i) Event Date: 0900 to 1600, August 13th 2016 (Saturday)
(Refer to Appendix 1 for event itinerary.)
ii) Event Venue: Hualien Air Base (No. 37, Huaxi Road, Hualien City)
iii) Target Invitations: Military personnel, government departments, schools, organizations, and individuals of Taiwanese nationality.
3) Event Items:
Aerial maneuvers by the Air Force Thunder Tigers, performance displays of mainstream fighters, Air Force Band performances, stationary display of equipment, and exhibition of historical materials during the resistance war, as well as tours around the military base. (Refer to Appendix 2 for stationary equipment display.)
4) Notes:
i) Visitors should bring their Republic of China Identification Cards (or other photo identification, such as driving licenses, national health insurance cards.), and abide by the guiding instructions of the personnel in the military base. Visitors failing to present their identification will not be allowed entry.
ii) In order to ensure the neutral stance and the purity of the military base, the wearing of election related apparel, distribution and posting of election related advertisements and flags or political rallying activities is prohibited in the military base.
iii) The carrying and use of remote camera drones and remote aircraft is prohibited in the military base to protect military secrets and ensure flight safety.
iv) Foreign visitors should take note that:
a. Foreign spouses that have yet to obtain their Republic of China Identification Cards should be accompanied by their Taiwanese spouse when entering the military base, and present their legal identification documents such as spouse identification card and residence permit for inspection.
b. Foreign caregivers should bring along their legal documents for inspection and enter the military base in the company of their wards.
c. With the exception of aforementioned foreign visitors and foreign visitors that have made applications in advance and obtained approval, the military base will not grant entry to foreign visitors without applications in advance.

6) Transportation Information:
i) Shuttle Bus Stops (Refer to Appendix 3.)
a. Hualien Tourist Wine Factory (No. 6, Meigong Rd, Hualien City, Hualien County)
b. Hualien Baseball Stadium (No. 1, Daguhuwan Avenue, Hualien City, Hualien County)
c. Hualien Railway Station (No. 100, Guolian 1st Rd., Hualien City, Hualien County)
d. Beipu Railway Station (No. 113, Ziqiang St., Xincheng Township, Hualien County)
ii) By Railway:
a. After exiting Hualien Railway Station, take shuttle bus to event venue.
b. After alighting at Beipu Railway Station, take shuttle bus to event venue.
iii) By Car
The military will be open at 0700 for early visitors arriving by car. However, due to the limited parking space within the military base, visitors arriving by car after the base is full will be directed to the various shuttle bus stops.
iv) Visitors arriving by motorcycles may park their motorcycles in the RSEA Engineering Corporation car park opposite the entrance at (No. 37, Huaxi Road, Hualien City) and walk into the military base.
v) Shuttle Bus Service Hours:
a. To Military Base: 0700 to 1500 on event date
b. Return Trip: Available until all visitors have departed from the military base after the event concludes at 1600.
c. Intervals: During peak hours, shuttle bus leaves upon reaching full capacity. During off-peak hours, shuttle bus leaves every 10 - 15 minutes.
d. The shuttle bus is conducted on a point to point basis. No boarding or alighting services will be offered en route.
