Dragon Boat Festival Long Holiday, Air Force Offers Contingency Transportation to Tourists and Military Personnel Stranded at Matsu Airport (June 13, 2016)
(Military News Agency reporter, Chen Ying-Zhu, Taipei, June 12th) Ministry of National Defense expressed today that due to the increased demands of air transportation during the Dragon Boat Festival holidays, the military shall cooperate with the transportation contingency plans of the Ministry of Transportation and Communication to deploy 2 Air Force C-130 transport aircrafts to assist in the transport of the 140 tourists and military personnel stranded at the Matsu Nangan Airport to the Air Force Base in Songshan today.
The Ministry indicated that, from the beginning of 2016 till today, the military has deployed a total of 72 flights of C-130 transport aircraft to assist in the transport of personnel stranded in Kinmen, Matsu and Penghu to Taipei and Kaohsiung, numbering a total of 3,385 tourists and military personnel.
The Ministry stressed that, “Loving and Helping the People” is the tradition of the military and in the spirits of ensuring safety, active contribution, efficiency and service, the military shall cooperate with the overall transportation plans of the Ministry of Transportation and Communication to deploy C-130 transport aircrafts to assist in the transportation of tourists and military personnel back to their work positions when there is an urgent need for transportation in the outlying islands.
