The Ministry of National Defense released a press release regarding suspicious naval mine near Chutou Island, Penghu September 21, 2020

The Ministry of National Defense said today that an explosive object resembling naval mine has been spotted on Chutou Island, Pengfu. A task team has been delegated for further identification. It turned out the mine was not a standard naval mine owned by the military. Due to the rusted surface, it was determined that it was a remnant of certain bombshell from WWII of unknown nationality. There was no concern for any potential hazard.

The MND said that it will destroy the remnant by setting it off some day at the scene. The Penghu Defense Command Headquarters will be the coordinator for the disposal of the object in the future.
