Unexploded ordnance in Gongliao waters destroyed by Navy

The Navy said on July 30 that they have a coastal working crew affiliated with Fleet 192 dispose of 13 shells of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Mao-ao Bay in Gongliao District, New Taipei City.

The Navy pointed out that the UXO has remained deserted for many years seriously rusted and has ruled that it is best to set it off where it is abandoned based on consensus agreed upon with government agencies and local representatives, including the Fishery Administration, Coast Guard Administration, Fishery Management Office of New Taipei City, Gongliao District Office, Gongliao District Fishery Association, Northeast Scenery Management Office, Fulian Elementary School and Fulian Village Representative. The explosion was completed at 10:15 today, following by verification at 14:00 to confirm that the 13 shells of UXO have been completely destroyed in hopes of ensuring safe, hazard-free living environment for local residents, students, tourists and fishermen.

The Navy Command Headquarter thanked all central and local agencies for their cooperation so the duty could be brought to accomplishment.
