The Ministry of National Defense issues a press release following media reports that "since the local epidemic situation is heating up, the Ministry should assist the county and city government with manpower shortages" (May 5, 2022)
In response to recent media reports that "since the local epidemic situation is heating up, the Ministry should assist the county and city government with manpower shortages", the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (5th) that epidemic prevention is a battle and the epidemic is endangering people's safety. As such, everyone has a part to play. It is also the duty of the Armed Forces to safeguard the safety of the country and its people.
The MND emphasized that the Armed Forces will adhere to the idea that the epidemic is seen as a battle, and follow the Infectious Disease Prevention Law and "Application for Troops of the Armed Forces in Supporting Disaster Prevention". The MND only wishes to see the suffering of people reduced. Thus, it will, considering both combat readiness and epidemic prevention tasks, review appropriate servicemen to support overall epidemic prevention work and face the challenges of the people head-on.
