A press release was issued on General Chen Pao-yu, Chief of the General Staff, being granted an extension of military service

The MND stated today (8) that Chief of the General Staff General Chen Pao-yu’s military service was approved for one-year extension by the President, and said extension will take effect on May 1, 2022.
The MND pointed out that General Chen Pao-yu, the Chief of the General Staff, has been assigned to the post since July 1, 2021. During this period of time, he was in charge of military order affairs, in command of the army, and also responsible for military training, personnel preparation, intelligence research, military deployment, military preparations and arms build-up, and national defense resource allocation and implementation. He has done suitably well in the planning and management of all these missions.
The MND further stated that General Chen serving at the post as Chief of the Staff Admiral will turn 64, the maximum age of service, on May 1, 2022. Based on the needs of overall defense operations as well as Article 6 of the "Military Service Regulations for Non-commissioned Officers and Officers of the Army, Navy, and Air Force" revised and announced on January 19, 2022, the extension of his service for one more year was approved by the President for it benefits of the continuation of the national defense policy and the development of overall military arms build-up.
