Press release by the 8^th Army Command

In response to media reports that "it was inconsistent with military etiquette for soldiers to bow to  President Tsai," the 8^th Army Command states today (5^th) that it has expressed regret and dissatisfaction as the media have deliberately misinterpreted the military maneuvers by officers and soldiers as well as maliciously slandered the Armed Forces. It has also requested a correction of such remarks. Furthermore, Command would like to call on the media to make good use of social utility and avoid resorting to untrue statements that could jeopardize officers and soldiers who are working hard on combat readiness to protect national security.

The 8^th Army Command points out that President Tsai inspected the 564 Brigade yesterday (4^th), and the unit demonstrated fighting capture techniques. After the exercise, officers and soldiers saluted the presiding officer and bowed, which is common etiquette and protocol for fighting capture. Military activities such as camp-opening and practicing fighting skills are also conducted accordingly. As such, this is not only a manifestation of personal combat strength and ability, but also denotes the spirit of sportsmanship, warrior style, and commensurable etiquette.

The 8^th Army Command emphasizes that the servicemen of the Armed Forces always stand by their posts and work hard in their duties of combat readiness, even when the Chinese New Year was approaching.  Command also urges the outside world not to interpret combat exercises for warfare with narrow and distorted viewpoints, and continue rendering support and encouragement to the Armed Forces. .
