The Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (2) that the media have reported Lieutenant Colonel surnamed by Hsieh and others were suspected of being recruited by CCP to conduct espionage and intelligence gathering. In view of the scenario, MND and national security agencies had received reports and jointly carried out counter-intelligence investigations in order to obtain specific evidence for illegality, whereas the competent judicial authorities are being noted to unveil investigation and handle the case with respect to law. Besides, MND is most saddened about the case, and should severely condemn some few unscrupulous individuals who have transgressed their duties to defend homeland, and committed such crimes in betrayal of the country and people.
MND emphasized that the Armed Forces would, in face of CCP infiltration and personnel recruitment by CCP, continuously strengthen counter-intelligence education in order to enhance security vigilance. Meanwhile, it has also strictly enforced various confidential operations, adopted appropriate measures against damage control, and worked with joint national defense mechanism to ensure the overall security and personnel purity.
