Regarding the plan for the establishment of the Institute for National Security Studies, the Ministry of National Defense claimed today (09/14) that the Institute for National Security Studies would be established as a national-level institute with the strategic vision, by taking the advice and opinions from different scholars and experts and considering the process of development of think tanks in many countries, to face any challenge and to satisfy the requirement of defense revolution.

The Ministry of National Defense claimed that the Institute for National Security Studies would provide crucial positions like the chairman of the board, directors, and strategic advisors. They will be selected from senior distinguished scholars and experts of established reputation, high-level retired generals, and government representatives. All positions are unpaid; therefore, giving rewards for past favors does not arise in this circumstance.

The Ministry of National Defense also claimed that the Institute for National Security Studies would be considered as a national-level think tank which is mainly responsible for studying and communicating important issues including national security, regional security, and the political and military conditions in China. Giving useful advice and interacting with international think tanks are also needed. On the other hand, “Center for Strategic Studies” in the Ministry of National Defense has been divided into several groups to analyze the revolution of military affairs, military strategy and tactics, and the study on innovative/asymmetric military specialty. The result of these studies will only be regarded as the references for further consideration. The nature and the work in these two institutes are segmented and differentiated.
