(Journalist Zhou Li-xing of Military News Agency on Jan. 20 in Taichung)To demonstrate the results of recruiting military volunteers and the performance of their training, the Ministry of National Defense invited the Defense Press Corps (print media) to  visit the 58th artillery command post of the Army. The Army soldiers skillfully performed gymnastics and mixed martial arts in the drill, which were highly praised and applauded by the Corps.

  Accompanied by the Army Deputy Commander Lt. Gen Chen and the Spokesperson Maj. Gen David Lo, the defense press corps visited Zhen Du Barracks of the Army in the morning. Besides briefing, the barracks also arranged a drill to demonstrate the recruitment of military volunteers and the performance of the training.

  In the drill, the soldiers of the 58th artillery command post first performed the actions of catching, knife and gun defense, and integrated exercise very skillfully, demonstrating to the Corps the training results of mixed martial arts of the Army. Afterwards, they performed the gymnastics with M110A2 8 inches self-propelled artillery. Upon the order of shooting was made, the soldiers soon completed the exercise of shooting, displaying their excellent combat skills and strength.

  The Army Deputy Commander Lt. Gen Chen said, the total number of military volunteers enlisted in the Army in 2015 has met and even achieved 139% of the target set by the MND; the percentage of the military volunteers who are willing to stay in the military also increased by a percentage of 4.9 to 11.1% , compared to 2014. The recruitment of military volunteers works very well. Besides, in order to build strong physiques and confidence for soldiers, “combat physical fitness” and  “mixed martial arts” have been included in the training program of the Army since 2015. Now the recruitment of military volunteers and the performance of their training have achieved beyond the benchmark, and they are eligible to shoulder the mission of the Army and the responsibilities of defending our country.
